About Us

On 24 February 2017, the Law No. 05/L-95 on the Academy of Justice entered into force. By this law the Kosovo Judicial Institute has been transformed into the Academy of Justice. 

Academy of Justice carries its functions in compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, and relevant laws and bylaws.   

Academy of Justice as a successor of the Kosovo Judicial Institute is an independent public institution with the main function to provide training for judges and prosecutors of the Republic of Kosovo, to provide training for the administrative staff of courts and prosecution, and may organize trainings for free professions, as well as other matters in accordance with the law.

 

The Academy carries out the following functions:

  • Draft training programs and organize training for judges and state prosecutors in accordance with the applicable law;
  • Develop training needs assessment process through established mechanisms of the Academy and based on requirements of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) and of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC);
  • Organize training for administrative staff of courts and prosecution, after prior coordination with KJC and KPC, in accordance with the applicable law;
  • May organize continuous professional training for state lawyers, notaries, private bailiffs, mediators, insolvency administrators, as well as other professions based on assessments of the Academy and requirements of the competent institutions;
  • Develop and conduct training programs in cooperation with KJC and KPC, Chambers of free professions or respective institutions;
  • Maintain training records and programs implemented by the Academy in accordance with the applicable legislation;
  • Establish and maintain cooperation with national and international institutions related to its functions, including professional practices and exchange programs;
  • Conduct analysis, research and cooperate with scientific institutions;
  • Issue publications that meet the mandate for addressing the needs of the judicial and prosecutorial system and of the free professions;
  • Perform other work as determined by the law and other bylaws of the Academy.
